On Saturday 17th June, over 100 party guests gathered in Clymping Village Hall for Uke Aid – a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love in aid of our DREAMBUILDING. The lovely, warm, midsummer's evening was the perfect setting for a step back in time as the guests arrived in an array of colourful, 60’s inspired fancy dress – ranging from Sgt Pepper to the well known image of the hippies of 1967 – peace, love, and flowers in their hair!
The evening centered on the big hits of the 1960’s, which the audience were delighted to join in with as they were performed by ‘Uke Aid’ – a ukulele band made up of 15 members from groups around the area. Watch a video of the band in action below!
A 60’s disco had the hippies up and dancing between the sets, and a Sgt Pepper themed quiz, raffle and prizes for the best fancy dress all added to the fun. The event, which was organised by hospice supporters Frank and Vicky Griffin, was a huge success and they were overwhelmed with the response for this. They summed the fantastic night up in the words of Sgt Pepper - "With a little help from our friends, a splendid time was guaranteed for all."
Uke Aid raised more than £1,400 – what an incredible achievement! Thank you to everyone involved, and a huge thank you to Frank and Vicky Griffin for organising a great night enjoyed by all!
