Over 100 VIP guests gathered at St Wilfrid’s new hospice site on Walton Lane, Bosham, to see the outline of the planned new building and launch the campaign to raise the remaining £4 million required to make St Wilfrid’s dream become a reality.
Chief Executive, Alison Moorey, reflected upon the last 30 years of care saying: “I’m reminded of the motto I revealed on my desk calendar on the very day of our 25th anniversary five years ago: ‘Cherish the past, adorn the present, create for the future’. This resonates even more appropriately today as we think about everything that has been achieved over the last thirty years and look forward to the next thirty years and beyond.”
St Wilfrid’s Hospice has cared for almost 16,000 patients and their loved ones since opening in 1987. The new purpose-built hospice will enable them to care for many more and expand their range of services to provide a wider range of support.
Looking ahead Angela Wormald, Chair of Trustees, said: “We have come a long way in our plans to build a new Hospice. Almost five years ago the Trustees identified the need to find a way to meet the increasing demand for our services, now here we are on our piece of land, ready to begin building our dream.”
Some guests braved the muddy field to take tours round the site, while others enjoyed viewing the marked out building from a cherry picker, generously provided by Beaver Tool Hire.
Kier Construction, Southern will begin construction in July 2017, with a completion date scheduled for October 2018.
